RRP (Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis) is a disease of the respiratory tract caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).  It causes tumor-like lesions to grow on the larynx and, in some cases, in the trachea and lungs. They invariably cause voice difficulties, including hoarseness and vocal fatigue.

Current surgical treatments tend to have limitations, many of which are overcome by the OmniGuide BeamPath laser flexible fiber.

PappilomaThe BeamPath fiber can be utilized in the:

  • Operating room setting.  Under general anesthesia utilizing a trans-oral approach, the OmniGuide BeamPath laser fiber allows for exposure and ablation of papilloma lesion in difficult to expose and treat anatomy in the subglottis and ventricles.  The BeamPath laser fiber allows the physician to direct the energy behind and around tissue. The BeamPath fiber contains the characteristics of previous treatments:

    • Exposure to subglottis and ventricles
    • Easy to use
    • Capable of ablating underlying tissue
    • Ability to debulk large lesions

  • Office or clinic setting.  In the physician’s office or clinic a patient can be treated through the working channel of a flexible endoscope (fiberscope) under topical anesthesia and occasional sedation, rather than in the operating room under general anesthesia.  Utilizing a similar technique as to what is performed in the operating room, the patients laryngeal and tracheal papillomas can be treated in the office or clinic.  The BeamPath fiber has some optimal characteristics for office or clinic based treatment:

    • BeamPath fiber works with the flexible endoscope
    • Papilloma lesions can be cut for removal, or ablated
    • Underlying tissue can be treated
    • No capitol expense – connect to the existing laser
    • No hospital admission, patient can be treated in a procedure room
