Mouth and Tongue Cancer

Precision Surgery with the BeamPath™ ENT

Surgery on the mouth and tongue requires a tool with the highest degree of control and maneuverability. OmniGuide®’s BeamPath ENT product line offers a technological breakthrough that enables precise removal of cancerous tissue.

What are Oral and Oropharyngeal Cancers?

Oropharyngeal cancer describes cancer of the upper throat, soft palate, base of the tongue, and tonsils. Oral cancer describes cancer that arises from the tissues of the lips and mouth. The majority of these cancer types are squamous cell carcinomas, meaning they arise from the outer layer of tissue lining the oral cavity . Symptoms vary by location, they may include painful swallowing, hoarseness and cough for oropharyngeal cancer and sores in the mouth that do not heal, lumps, bleeding, numbness for oral cancer.

Surgical Removal of Oral and Oropharyngeal Cancers

Treatment of oral and oropharyngeal cancer may involve surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or any combination of the three. Each patient’s treatment regimen depends on factors such as his/her age, general wellbeing and tumor size and location. Surgical removal of the cancerous lesion plays an important role in the treatment of the majority of oral and oropharyngeal cancer cases. OmniGuide has changed the way surgeons operate by providing the cutting precision and hemostatic effects of CO2 laser with the flexible BeamPath ENT delivery system, thus enabling minimally invasive access to the various diseased regions of the oral and oropharyngeal cavities.

 Why OmniGuide BeamPath?

For the first time, surgeons are able to flexibly deliver CO2 laser energy to perform precision minimally invasive surgery in the oral and oropharyngeal cavities. Surgeons use OmniGuide’s BeamPath ENT system because it combines precise cutting, ablation and microvascular coagulation while ensuring preservation of surrounding healthy tissue. This is extremely useful for surgery on highly vascularized (containing a large number of blood vessels) tissue such as the tongue. The flexibility of the BeamPath fiber allows surgeons to reach tumors in anatomical regions they could not readily access previously.

 The OmniGuide Commitment
