Surgeon FAQ

For which surgical specialties is the BeamPath™ System designed?

OmniGuide offers indication specific BeamPath systems for Neurosurgery & Spine, Otology& Neurotology, Head & Neck, Laryngology & Airway, and Gynecology. Since its launch, the BeamPath system has been used in over 8,000 adult and pediatric surgical procedures and in over 250 medical centers.

What clinical benefits does the BeamPath system offer?

Offering the combined benefits of precise cutting, ablation and minimal thermal damage to untargeted tissue, the CO2 laser has stood out as the tool of choice for soft tissue surgery for over three decades. Until very recently, the CO2 laser was limited to certain applications due to its rigid “line of sight” delivery mechanism. OmniGuide® has changed that paradigm.

OmniGuide’s flexible BeamPath fiber system places CO2 laser energy into the hands of surgeons. Based on breakthrough technology developed at MIT, published in both Nature and Science, the BeamPath™ system has overcome the limitations of traditional line-of-sight CO2 lasers. It has empowered surgeons to precisely dissect and cut tissue, coagulate microvasculature, and debulk masses they previously could not access. The hollow core of the fiber delivers a cooling flow of inert gas that clears the surgical field of blood and debris, improves coagulation, and minimizes tissue heating.
